A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US

HISTORY

A speculative enquiry between two residents of Upperton Road set the ball rolling. We began with having more litter bins installed on the street, and the frequency of street cleaning increased. The regular problem of end-of-term rubbish in rented accomodation is immediately flagged up with the council, forcing the landlords to take action, or face the consequences. Increasingly more people learnt of this work, and we discovered that we were all like minded, and so the sense of commnity began to flourish again.

WHAT WE DO

(i) Foster a community spirit by encouraging local residents to get involved in looking after and improving the area.

(ii) Scrutinise planning applications that affect the local area, particularly ones for purpose built student accomodation (see petition), making written objections and raising petitions where necessary.

(iii) Maintain vigilance on potential criminal activity.

(iv) Support vulnerable or elderly neighbours, making sure their views on the area are heard.

(v) Support the West End Experimental Residents' Parking Scheme, and request that it be extended to include the West side of Narborough Road (see petiton).

(vii) Lobby and seek accountability amongst public sector officials whose roles can affect our neighbourhood.

(viii) Use the planning system to protect the residential and visual amenity of the area.
