CPH Thurmaston, Upperton Road

Sorry for the quiet spell, hopefully the Facebook page has handled all of the updates. So it seems like all hell's broken loose at the site of CPH Thurmaston on Upperton Road.

For those who are not aware of what's been happening...

September 20th...
An order was granted to bring the potential demolition of a Victorian factory under council control. More than 400 people objected to Jamie Lewis Residential knocking down the CPH Thurmaston building, in Upperton Road, to build 731 student rooms in buildings up to eight storeys high. The order means the council will be allowed to consider issues such as its historical significance when deciding whether to allow the building's demolition at a later date.

September 21st...
Around 10pm windows started being smashed and removed, residents on Freeman's Meadow could hear hammers and angle grinders at work. Next morning, as you can see in the photo above, some windows had been crudely bricked up and random paint thrown over the brickwork and some graffiti daubed on the walls. A lot of breeze blocks and a wheel barrow were left.

September 23rd...
A letter was sent to the owners on September 23, asking the situation be rectified by removing graffiti and either removing the block work from the windows or completing the work to an acceptable standard.

A compliance check is due today (3rd)...there will be an update on here later today. As of Friday 30th, there had been no visible attempt to rectify the appearance outside the building.
